5 décor trends shaping homes this year

Décor trends move faster than furniture trends, and that's exactly what makes them useful — they're the easiest, least expensive way to refresh a room without touching a single piece of furniture. Here's what we're seeing show up again and again in the homes we've worked on this year.

1. Warm minimalism

Stark, all-white minimalism is softening into something warmer — think plaster-textured walls, warm beiges and terracottas, and natural wood tones replacing cold white surfaces. The rule stays the same (less clutter, more intention), but the palette has warmed up considerably.

2. Curated open shelving

Open shelves styled with a mix of books, ceramics, and a single plant are replacing fully closed cabinetry in living rooms and kitchens alike. The trick is restraint — group items in odd numbers, vary height, and leave breathing room between objects instead of filling every inch.

3. Dried and preserved botanicals

Pampas grass, dried palm fronds, and preserved eucalyptus are showing up in vases across almost every home we visit. They give a room the softness of greenery without the maintenance, and they photograph beautifully in the low, warm light most people now use indoors.

  • Warm, plaster-toned walls over stark white
  • Open shelves styled with restraint, not packed full
  • Dried botanicals in place of high-maintenance greenery
  • Mixed metal finishes used deliberately, not by accident

4. Mixed metal finishes

Matching every metal fixture in a room is no longer the goal. Brushed brass door handles, matte black tap fittings, and warm gold pendant lights are increasingly used together in the same space — as long as one finish is allowed to lead and the others support it.

5. Layered ambient lighting

A single ceiling light is being replaced by two or three light sources at different heights — a floor lamp, pendant lights, and hidden cove lighting working together. It's a small change that makes almost every room feel noticeably more considered in the evening.

Want to bring a few of these into your own home without a full renovation? Our team can put together a styling plan built around what you already own — get in touch and we'll talk through it.
